October 19, 2009 A total of 314 schools with over 82,000 students in 54 out of 60 different school districts participated in International Walk to School Week October 5 - 9, 2009. Additionally, 2000 high school students participated in our inaugural BC Secondary School iWalk Week Challenge. Over 400 student-led walking groups were formed province-wide during the week. A big thank you to all who participated to promote and celebrate the many benefits of walking. All participating schools will receive a school prize pack (includes pedometers, lunch bags, stickers, and temporary tattoos) from our partner, ActNow BC. To receive your prize pack, please fill in a School Feedback and Prize Pack Form (a copy has been sent to all participating schools). All completed entries received by October 23, 2009 will receive a prize pack. Don't forget to visit www.actnowbc.ca/challenge/2010spiritschools before October 31st to become a 2010 Spirit School and receive a second class set of pedometers! You will also be entered to win the grand prize of a visit from the Road to 2010 Tour at your school (includes interactive ski machine, Winter Sport Wii, a visit from the Olympic mascots, the 2010 Olympic torch and more great healthy living prizes from ActNow BC)! 
September 16, 2009 School Registrations A total of 227 schools with 69,000 students in 47 different school districts are set to participate in International Walk to School Week October 5 - 9, 2009 to promote and celebrate the many benefits of walking. Registration Deadline - Extended Schools can register online by September 18 to ensure they receive their planning resource and incentive package. Schools can still register after the deadline but supplies may be limited. All registered schools will be entered into our grand prize draw. Click here to register now. Resource and Incentive Packages - Mailed Your planning resource and incentive packages have been mailed this week. All registered schools should be receiving them shortly. Packages will be mailed out as ongoing registrations are received. Secondary School iWalk Week Challenge 2009 New! Secondary schools are invited to participate in the iWalk Week Challenge 2009. The iWalk Week Challenge encourages high school students to initiate Student Walking Groups to enhance implementation of Daily Physical Activity (DPA) and to build upon the strong social aspect of students walking together to school. Every secondary school is encouraged to create up to 10 student walking groups (of up to 5 members each) with each walking group logging as many walking trips to and from school during the week of October 5 - 9, 2009. Of course you can create as few or as many walking groups as you like, the key is to get students up and ...walking. Registration deadline is September 25 so register now to receive your student planning kit which contains posters, planning resources, and buttons. Secondary schools can still register after the deadline but supplies may be limited. All walking groups will have a chance at winning prizes. Click here to register now.
